A MALVERN-based building services contractor has demon- strated the full range of its expertise at a new food centre that has just been built in Shropshire.

David Jones and Co undertook the design and installation of all electrical and mechanical services in the building complex with a total contract value of more than £300,000.

The Ludlow Food Centre - in the village of Bromfield just north of Ludlow - includes a large, high-quality shop, eight food production units and a centre which is offering training in farm retail and food processing aimed primarily at farm-based operators.

It sells home and locally produced food and drink and guarantees that at least 80 per cent of the products displayed for sale in the store are either produced or processed from within Shropshire, Worcester-shire, Herefordshire and Powys. Food production units, which are visible from the store, include a butcher, a bakery, a coffee roaster, an ice-cream maker and a preserves maker.

In addition to all the lighting and power circuits, DJ Electrical has installed all CAT 6 and fibre optic cabling for the centre's electronic points of sale.

Mechanical services for the complex provided by David Jones extended to the design, manufacture and installation of all air handling and ventilation equipment, including the routing of input and extracting air and the provision of fire dampers in floor voids.

The plumbing installation was also the responsibility of the company and covered all hot and cold supplies, including the installation of electrically heated tanks which also benefit from heat recovery from the air conditioning.

DJ Air Conditioning also designed and installed the complete air conditioning system, which covers all retail areas, first floor offices, the centre's conference facility and the IT suite.

Graham George, managing director of David Jones and Co, said: "Rarely does a building services contractor have the responsibility for providing all electrical and mechanical services, including air conditioning, particularly in a multi-use complex such as the Ludlow Food Centre.

"It has allowed us to demonstrate our design and installation capability across the building services spectrum."
