WORCESTER-based Postcode Anywhere has been awarded third place in the inaugural Information Technologists Company Best Entrepreneurial Team awards.

They highlight the best teams in the UK which significantly embrace information technology within their businesses and have demonstrated the importance of working together as a cohesive and effective business unit. Sponsored by Baker Tilly, the awards were presented at the New Connaught Rooms in Covent Garden, London, and judged by a panel which included the chairman of the Design Council Sir Anthony Cox and Anthony Clarke, chairman of the British Business Angel Association.

They examined important factors such as growth rate, team dynamics and market/ product alignment.

The Postcode Anywhere team, comprising the four founder-employees of the company - Guy Mucklow, Jamie Turner, Jonathan Fisher and Rachael Mackwell - were pitted against almost 80 other organisations.

The teams had to be from privately owned companies and had to have traded for at least three years, but no more than 10 years.

Postcode Anywhere was founded in 2001 and now has more than 5,000 customers.

Guy Mucklow, Postcode Anywhere's managing director, said: "As a company we already have a string of awards that probably have a bit more kudos attached to them. However, the ITC BET awards are fundamentally different from others, because they recognise that real achievement only comes from having a great team, where each member has individual talents and skills which when combined makes a potent formula for success."

Data from the competition entries has been collated and will be used for a study into the characteristics of entrepreneurial teams.
