ONE of the area's leading plant nurseries is going sunny side up.

Bransford Webbs, which is in the village of Bransford about three miles west of Worcester, has had new solar panels fitted to its main warehouse and office building, enabling the complex to generate its own electricity.

Financial director Richard Colbourne explained: "The solar panels will generate about half of the electricity we use. We are hoping to utilise a good proportion of the electricity created, as our main use is during the day when the panels will be operational. Any surplus we don’t use will go back to the national grid."

Work commenced on the project in late October with a 60kw system being fitted and solar panels installed on the east roof of the despatch shed. Western Power upgraded the transformer supplying the nursery in late November. This enabled the firm to connect the system to the electricity supply and it has now gone "live".

The installation of the solar panel system will further add to the environmental credentials of Bransford Webbs, which maintained its industry accreditation following inspection earlier this year.
