ONE of Upton-on-Severn's best known pubs, the Swan Hotel, has re-opened as a non-smoking venue and with new licensees following a £100,000 refurbishment.

Brian Hulme, Nick Mossop and Steve Ballard took over the lease on the Marston's Pub Company pub have worked hard to bring the venue up to a high standard.

"Obviously, the ban is coming in shortly anyway," Mr Mossop said. "So when we decided to invest in the premises, it made sense to go non-smoking now, so that the new furnishings wouldn't be covered in smoke."

Licensee and head chef Mr Ballard said: "We also have a strong food focus and wanted our customers to be able to sample the menu in a clean environment.

Work is also under way on transforming the letting rooms above the bar. All seven rooms will be refurbished to the same stan-dards as the ground floor and as all come with an en-suite.
