MOVE over Mo Farah, two enthusiastic runners from Worcester are in training for the 2013 London Marathon.
Stephanie Andrews and Colin King, who both work at RWE npower’s offices in Warndon, Worcester, are on track to raise £2,000 for the company’s charity partner, Macmillan Cancer Support.
Since training started last October, the couple have completed 89 runs totalling nearly 484 miles in 81 hours.
Analyst programmer Mrs Andrews, of Pershore, said she was looking forward to the challenge.
“We have ten more training runs before the marathon and I think we are well prepared.
“We are both delighted that we are raising money for Macmillan – a charity which provides practical, medical and financial support for people affected by cancer.”
The charity relies on donations for 98 per cent of its funding which means the London Marathon is a major source of income.
However, the event will prove especially challenging for 38-year-old Mr King, who lives in Churchdown near Gloucester, and who hasn’t run seriously since leaving school.
He said: “Steph had wanted to run the London Marathon for some years and, this year, was offered a place in the ballot.
“She convinced me to join her and training began with a vengeance.”
He said the pair’s training schedule has been tough, but rewarding as their fitness improved.
“Long distance running is a mixed bag – the six mile runs we do twice a week are becoming easier, but the long distance runs are still challenging,” he said.
“I struggle with the last mile or so, but that may be psychological as well as physical.”
The pair are on target to raise £1,000 for Macmillan, which RWE npower has agreed to match, bringing the total to £2,000.
