MEET the soon-to-be familiar face who is now at the helm of the advertising division of your Worcester News and Berrows Journal.
Sue Griffiths has just taken on the role of group advertisement manager, with responsibility for both Worcester titles as well as the various editions of the Malvern Gazette and Evesham Journal.
She has succeeded long-serving Nigel Wilson, who is enjoying an early retirement, and is looking forward to the quick-fire, ever-changing demands of her new fast-paced role.
“It is definitely a big step up and a demanding role in challenging times but I am enjoying engaging with the role and getting stuck into the task,” she said.
Mrs Griffiths can also call on 25 years of experience at Newsquest to help her settle into the new role. She first started with the company as a field sales rep in our Hereford office back in 1988 and worked her way up through the ranks to become classified sales manager.
She covered the same role briefly in Worcester in 1996 before returning to Hereford, but then came back to Worcester in 2005 as group training manager.
She said this more “behind- the-scenes” role had broadened her working knowledge but also helped her understand how to help staff deliver their best and succeed in their roles – skills she believes will be valuable in her new position.
“I hope to use the expertise I have acquired in training to ensure that we are developing people so they achieve the best for themselves and the company,” she said.
“We have a fantastic team here, with experienced managers and a hard-working, loyal staff all around.”
One of the aspects of the new role that Mrs Griffiths is looking forward to most is meeting customers.
“I am looking forward to getting out and about meeting all the customers and communities that really are Worcester, Malvern and Evesham,” she said.
