IT was so frustrating that we finally got our line-out functioning in the London Irish win at Sixways only for it to not go too well to say the least at Wasps.
The scrum wasn’t great in the first-half of our 10-6 Aviva Premiership defeat at Adams Park either.
Wasps had two good defensive line-out jumpers in Tom Palmer and Marco Wentzel which put pressure on our throw-ins.
With a decent line-out and scrum, we would have won that game and we went in full of confidence after training well in the week, but it just didn’t happen for us.
You have to give credit to Wasps but our set-piece let us down and we didn’t keep our composure in their 22. At least we took a point.
When we piled pressure on the Wasps try-line near the end, it was too little, too late.
With five minutes left, they felt they had won and went into defensive mode to secure victory.
We now have a break from the Premiership as the Amlin Challenge Cup takes over.
We can freshen up our squad and a few of the guys who have played week in, week out will get away from the training ground for a few days.
We have two games in Europe in the next two weeks and I’ll be involved with both — whether that be starting or coming off the bench — and I’m happy with that.
I don’t know much about the Spanish team Bizkaia Gernika we play this weekend but we’ll have a look at the videos of them before flying out on Friday.
We will work on our scrum and line-out this week. This is a competition we want to do well in.
The likes of Joe Carlisle, who looks really sharp, and some of the guys who are coming back from injury will be in the team and it is a good opportunity for them to impress.
The signing of Euan Murray is a really good statement of intent.
He is a great player and a Scotland international who is hungry and wants to play.
I have nothing but admiration for the club for pulling off this kind of signing.
