STAFF and students at a Worcestershire primary school are celebrating an outstanding report from Ofsted inspectors.

Powick CE Primary School was given top marks across the board by inspectors Godfrey Bancroft and Patricia Hunt following their two day visit earlier this month.

Pupils’ achievement and behaviour, the quality of teaching and the school’s leadership and management were all singled out for the highest praise, with Mr Bancroft observing: “This is an outstanding school, which promotes pupils’ personal and academic development exceptionally well.”

He said pupils make “excellent progress” and reach standards well above average by the end of reception class, year two and year six.

“Teaching is outstanding,” he said. “Lessons are consistently challenging and engaging; pupils are very knowledgeable about the progress they are making and what they need to do to improve their work further.” Mr Bancroft gave great credit to the school’s leadership.

“The governing body, school leaders and staff are all dedicated to maintaining high standards and to ensuring that every pupil can do their best,” he said. “No-one is complacent and the search to make the school even better is constant.”

Headteacher Richard Drewett, who has been at the helm for 15 years, is delighted with the inspection result.

“We got outstanding three years ago but it is reassuring to know that they still consider us to be at that level,” he said. “I was particularly pleased with what they found about the children’s academic achievement but also their personal progress and development.

“They like coming to school and they are learning how to make friendships and relationships and get on in the world.”

He added: “This feedback reflects on everyone’s efforts in making this school special.”
