CHER Lloyd might not have made it two number ones in a row in the singles chart, but there’s a bigger prize on offer at the end of this week – the top spot in the album chart.
And it certainly seems 18-year-old Cher could be on course for a number one with debut Sticks and Stones after it was sold out in Morrisons in Malvern before her family could get their hands on it.
The Lloyds – who rushed to the supermarket before 9am yesterday – had to travel into Worcester to buy their copies in the High Street.
The album is, of course, available across the country and already making its mark on the charts – top five on iTunes with the likes of Coldplay – once again highlighting how far Cher has come.
“It feels a bit weird,” admitted dad Darren yesterday.
Despite their early morning rush, the family have had a copy for the last three months – which has been played on repeat in the car – and they already have their favourites.
Mr Lloyd said: “Our favourite is Beautiful People. It’s a good track, especially for the older ones.
"Sophie and Rosie – Cher’s sisters – like End Up Here.”
Cher has been on a whirlwind publicity tour for the last few weeks – yesterday, she was on Blue Peter while today she will be signing copies of Sticks and Stones at Fort Dunlop in Birmingham at 5pm.
Not to mention the performance of With UR Love on the X Factor results show last week, which the family accompanied her to – no doubt an odd experience a year after Cher herself was performing on the popular singing contest.
Mr Lloyd said: “Craig [Colton] and Johnny [Robinson] were lovely.”
But now the focus is on the future and Sticks and Stones – and there is every possibility it’s going to be bright one.
Review
• Grow Up – feat Busta Rhymes
One most definitely for the teenagers. It’s loud and in-your-face. It doesn’t set the tone for the rest of the album.
• Want U Back
This is a fun track.
• With UR Love – feat Mike Posner
It might have only made number four, but I like it. A lot.
• Swagger Jagger
The ultimate Marmite song.
• Beautiful People – feat Carolina Liar
The album’s first ballad. It has an edge which suits the personality which we’ve come to expect from Cher. It might be my favourite.
• Playa Boi
I did like the Madonna-in-the-80s feeling which underlies the track. Catchy.
• Superhero
The acoustic version of this song was released earlier this year. This is a bit faster, but still good.
• Over the Moon
I feel like this track takes inspiration from the 50s, with a bit of rap thrown in.
• Dub on the Track – feat Mic Righteous, Dot Rotten and Ghetts
• This is the track with the biggest nod towards British street culture.
• End Up Here
From big rapping, to a song which wouldn’t be out of place on the Saturdays’ next album.
