A BATTLE of Britain Spitfire and two RAF Tornado jets will be just some of the attractions at Throckmorton Airfield next weekend.

About 20,000 people are expected to attend the air show near Pershore on Saturday, June 11, which raises funds for local and national charities.

Among the crowd pleasers confirmed so far include air displays by two RAF Tornado GR4s, the Belgian Air Force Augusta A109 display team, a Jet Provost display, a Battle of Britain Spitfire, the Twister Duo aerobatic team, Brendon O’Brien’s flying circus and the World War One Great War Birds.

A flypast from the Red Arrows is also planned.

Other attractions include RAF Merlin and Chinook helicopters, a parachute freefall team, custom trucks and super cars, aircraft flight simulators, military and police vehicles, an Army bomb disposal squad, crash demonstrations and the Royal Marines display team.

And there will be appearances from well-known faces from the television police shows Road Wars, Traffic Cops, Motorway Cops and Police Interceptors.

Event organiser PC Angus Nairn, a Central Motorway Police Group officer stationed at Hindlip, near Worcester, said: “This promises to be a step up from last year when we had about 15,000 people. Everyone who comes is going to have a real day to remember – both by what they see in the air and on the ground.”

All proceeds from the air show will be divided between Help For Heroes, the RAF Benevolent Fund, the Royal British Legion, the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association and Acorns Children’s Hospice.
