A FLAT fire in a Worcester high-rise block is believed to have been caused by a faulty electrical item.
As we reported in your Worcester News yesterday, the blaze gutted a flat on the fifth floor of a high-rise building in St Clement’s Close, off Tybridge Street, St John’s on Monday afternoon.
One woman – believed to be in her mid-80s – was treated by paramedics at the scene for smoke inhalation.
The flat owner was later found safe and well in another part of the building.
Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service watch commander Keith Peters said: “This type of incident highlights just how important it is to have a working smoke alarm in the home and I’d urge everyone to check their own alarms are in working order as they really can save lives.”
Commander Peters also thanked the local community for their patience, particularly those whose cars were blocked in.
