A MAN who stole two pairs of children’s shorts from a Worcester shop when he was drunk said he could not remember the incident.
Scott Goodman, aged 31, admitted stealing the shorts, worth £40, from Fat Face, High Street, on Thursday, May 19.
Louise Mead, prosecuting, said Goodman was in The Shambles and was seen to be unsteady on his feet.
“He had something under his jacket, which was bulging in the front,” she said.
“Officers approached him. He had two pairs of children’s cargo shorts which were still attached to the hanger.”
Goodman, of St Paul’s Hostel, in Tallow Hill, told police he was very drunk and remembered going into the shop. He admitted stealing the items but could not remember why.
Mark Lister, defending, said: “He committed the offence while in drink.
“The fact they were children’s shorts demonstrate there was little thought.
“It’s right to say he has a number of offences for dishonesty but the encouraging fact is that the last time he was before a court for a dishonesty matter was August 2006.
“On this occasion he drank inappropriately and that led to his behaviour.”
Goodman was given a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £85 costs.
