FAMILIES are being offered tips on how to combat food waste. The handy suggestions are available through Worcestershire County Council’s Love Food Hate Waste scheme.

According to the council, reducing food waste can help the average family save about £50 a month.

Councillor Anthony Blagg, cabinet member for environment and waste management, said: “With budgets being tight for many households this summer, reducing food waste is a quick win to help us save money.

“It’s amazing to think that food waste costs the average family about £50 a month. Nationally that’s about £12 billion a year and that’s why we’ve launched Love Food Hate Waste to help Worcester people buck this trend.

“The campaign offers a wealth of tips and many of these will come in particularly handy as it warms up outside and we find ourselves wanting to spend less time in the kitchen and more time out enjoying any good weather. And of course, all of these great tips can be used and adapted all year-round, whatever the climate.”

People can also make use of a weekly menu planner and learn how to turn leftovers into tasty meals. For more information, visit lovefoodhatewaste.com.
