A NEW tree has been planted to spruce up a picturesque Worcestershire village.
The Wellingtonia tree was planted in Bevere on the outskirts of Worcester to mark the royal wedding celebrations, and to replace two old lime trees that died over the winter.
Residents Kevin Savage and Jason Smith, who own the green and look after the trees there, said: “We lost two of the original lime trees last winter, and wanted to replace them with new tree.
“This Welliingtonia matches another Wellingtonia already growing beside Bevere Green in the grounds of Bevere Manor Lodge, although that one has some 250 years’ head start on the new one.
“We planned to plant it this spring anyway, and then thought what a fitting memorial it would be to the marriage of Prince William and Kate Middleton.”
