AN American businessman has pleaded guilty to driving without due care and attention after an accident involving a cyclist.

The cyclist suffered a dislocated shoulder, cuts and bruises when he was hit by Joseph Sycip’s car on a traffic island on Droitwich Road in Worcester.

Louise Mead, prosecuting, said Sycip, of Kays Avenue South, San Gabriel, California, told police in an interview he had slowed down when he approached and he believed the island was clear.

She said: “He pulled out and struck a cyclist he didn’t see.”

When given the opportunity to speak, Sycip said the incident was an accident and he was prepared to accept the consequences.

At Worcester Magistrates Court, district judge David Goodman fined the 51-year-old £235 and endorsed his licence with six penalty points.

He must also pay costs of £85 and a £15 victim surcharge.
