A REUNION of the Home Guard of Worcestershire will be held tomorrow.
The event was organised following the popularity of last year’s reunion to mark the 70th anniversary of the Home Guard.
Former members of the defence organisation will meet in the Mayor’s Parlour at the Guildhall in High Street, Worcester, at 3pm.
A wider display celebrating the defence of Worcestershire during the Second World War is on at the Guildhall from 9.30am to 4.30pm.
Paul Harding, from education company Discover History, which is organising the event with the mayor’s office, said: “The event will give thanks to the veterans who would have been the county’s front line defence against German troops.
“They were willing to defend our great county to the last.”
The Home Guard was formed in May 1940 and members would be asked to slow an invading force.
Worcestershire was to become a particularly vital defensive position because the Royal family and the Government were to be moved to the county.
