YOUNGSTERS in a county village have been left distraught after vandals targeted a new children’s playground – a week after it was officially opened.
Yobs struck in Pinvin, near Pershore, and broke saplings, destroyed bushes and contaminated the sandpit with litter and broken bottles.
Concerned mum Jane Hynes said: “The most recent incident happened on Tuesday night, when the picnic bench was overturned and yet more trees were broken.
“It is particularly upsetting as the park has only been open for a few weeks.”
Fellow Pinvin mum Teresa Davis had spent two years raising the £70,000 to make the playground a reality. Mrs Hynes, who runs Pinvin Pre-School, said: “Our children are sad and distressed. They cannot understand why people would do such a thing.
“It’s upsetting and we intend to take the matter up with our local community officer.”
Police have also been made aware of the vandalism.
