DRUGS dogs have been sent into three Malvern schools and colleges.

The police were invited to search the Chase Technology College, South Worcestershire College and Dyson Perrins CE Sports College with two sniffer dogs.

However, no drugs were uncovered during the operations, which were carried out with the assistance of staff.

It is not the first time police have used the tactic, after a successful search at schools in Evesham last year.

PC Jemma Greenow, who organised the operation, said: “Schools and colleges in Malvern do not have a problem with pupils using drugs and have the same issues as any other school.

“But they wanted us to come along and deal with anyone who may be in possession of drugs and also send a clear message to pupils of the no tolerance approach from teachers and police.”

At the Chase in Geraldine Road on Monday, May 23, 800 pupils were processed, with 11 searched after indications from the dogs.

Two hundred students were searched at South Worcestershire College, with three giving indicators.

Then at Dyson Perrins 500 pupils were involved and four were searched.

In every case, no drugs were found.

Dyson Perrins’ headteacher David Griffin said: “The vast majority of people do not involve themselves with illegal activities, but it is appropriate that the message is reinforced, that we have a zero tolerance approach to anything illegal.”
