PARK wardens have prepared for summer planting in a Worcester park with the help of city schoolchildren.

About 15 year seven pupils from the River School, Droitwich Road, helped park wardens strip flower beds at Barbourne’s Gheluvelt Park on Monday.

Thanks to them a beautiful display of marigold reds, African marigold vanillas, Plectranthus silver shield, geranium mixed, begonia non-stop red, begonia non-stop yellow and geranium quicksilver will soon be brightening up the park.

The pupils have previously worked with Worcester City Council’s parks team as part of their citizenship and community service studies.

Richard Wood, the school’s headmaster, said: "Working with organisations such as the city council offers the chance for our pupils to get involved with their local communities.”
