A COUNCILLOR is lending his support to the Acorns Triple Run.
Coun Tom Wells, ward member for Powick on Worc-estershire County Council, will be taking part in the Malvern half marathon – one of three challenges to feature in Sunday’s event.
Hundreds of supporters of Worcester-based Acorns Children’s Hospice will be turning out for the event which incorporates the half marathon, a 5km fun run and a wheelchair-friendly 1km ‘chicken’ run. It is taking place at the Three Counties Showground, Malvern.
Money raised will help Acorns to fund its care for children with life limiting and life threatening illnesses and their families.
Coun Wells, aged 52, of Callow End, near Worcester, who is chairman of the county council’s overview and scrutiny performance board as well as a Malvern Hills district councillor, said: “Acorns Children’s Hospice is a remarkably good cause and the work it does is wonderful, that’s why I’m doing it. I want to raise as much money as I can.
“I’m feeling increasingly nervous about the run. It seemed like a good idea a month or so ago.
“I’ve not run that distance before so I’m entering into unchartered territory. But the thought of an enormous amount of sponsorship hanging on me will undoubtedly keep me going.”
