A FAMILY are demanding urgent repairs to a wall after their son was hurt by tumbling bricks.

Jaydon May was playing in the garden of his home in Borrowdale Drive, off Tolladine Road, Tolladine, Worcester, when part of the 5ft wall fell on top of him.

He suffered a cut to his head and cuts and bruising to his shin and thigh.

Fortunately, the 11-year-old did not need emergency treatment, but was so traumatised by the experience he missed a day of school.

Mum Pauline Rogers contacted landlords Worcester Community Housing the following day – Thursday, May 12 – and staff have removed some of the brick work and concluded that the wall no longer posed an immediate danger. Just under a week later, a metal fence was put up on the garden side of the wall as an added precaution.

However Miss Rogers, aged 32, said she was terrified that the remaining bricks could topple and hurt unsuspecting passers-by using the footpath which runs alongside it.

“Last year, some bricks did fall onto the footpath. I’m concerned that kids on the other side could get hurt,” said the mother-of-two.

Marc Mayall, head of the building maintenance service at WCH, said an assessment on Wednesday, May 18, concluded that the wall was stable and in no danger of collapsing in the short-term, but that it would have to be replaced. “The contractor has advised that the wall will need to be demolished at some point and rebuilt or a fence put in its place. WCH has instructed the contractor to this work and a 6ft concrete and timber panel fence will be installed.”
