AN art project by children from two Worcester schools has won a national award.
More than 200 children from St Barnabas and St George’s CE primary schools worked with professional artists for the project called Making Your Mark on the Future.
The children created pictures and stories, which were used to produce a series of banners and their efforts have been rewarded with a Drawing Inspiration Award from the Campaign for Drawing’s Big Draw campaign.
Artists Alison Ogle and Petr Horacek were commissioned by the University of Worcester to help the children produce a series of works celebrating the rebirth of the former Worcester Royal Infirmary.
The children explored the history of the Castle Street buildings and their transformation into a second campus for the university.
Steve Boffy, arts co-ordinator at the university, said: “We are delighted that the project has won a national award.
“It is a real testament to the hard work of the children, teachers and artists who all took part. They did a fantastic job.”
The schools project was part of a number of arts projects set up to celebrate the history of the former hospital and its future as part of the university.
The art project has been supported by The Elmley Foundation and Worcestershire County Council.
