ARSONISTS are believed to have targeted a derelict factory in Droitwich at the weekend.

Nine people reported the blaze to emergency services at about 2.30am on Saturday (21) at an old salt packing factory in Hanbury Road.

Engines from Droitwich and Bromsgrove attended and used two hose reel jets to tackle the ground floor fire.

Firefighters also wore breathing apparatus as there was believed to be asbestos roofing in the area where the fire had broken out. The flames were under control by 3.30am.

Station commander Steve Fox, from Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service, said: “Crews were at the incident within minutes and the fire was quickly extinguished with no one injured and damage limited to the roof panels at the disused factory.”

The fire is believed to have been started deliberately although it is not yet clear if police are investigating the matter.
