A MAN had to be airlifted to hospital after suffering serious head injuries when he fell into a dry dock.
The man, in his 60s, also received back and abdominal injuries after falling almost 10 feet into the canal dry dock near the canal basin in Bridge Street, Stourport, at 6.20pm on Saturday.
West Midlands Ambulance Service sent an ambulance; a paramedic in a rapid response vehicle; the Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford base to the scene.
A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “Ambulance staff arriving on scene reported that a man in his 60’s had fallen almost 10 feet into a dry dock at the Bridge Street canal basin.
“The man suffered extensive head injuries and was described as ‘very poorly’ by ambulance paramedics attending.”
“The HART team together with firefighters and ambulance staff managed to bring the man out of the dry dock area in which he fell and he was eventually taken to the waiting helicopter.
“The casualty also received back and abdominal injuries. The patient was airlifted to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham. The hospital was alerted the serious condition of the casualty.”
