THE record of a councillor who lost his job being in charge of Worcestershire’s highways has been criticised and praised in equal measure.
Readers have been logging onto worcesternews.co.uk in their droves to comment on the career of Councillor Derek Prodger.
We previously reported how Coun Prodger had lost his position as one of the county’s main movers and shakers as part of a major cabinet reshuffle at County Hall.
The Conservative party member, who is still a county councillor representing the Bedwardine ward, has overseen the creation of controversial bus lanes, changes to gritting routes and countless road repairs which have divided the general public.
Jabbadad, Worcester, said: “I have known Derek Prodger for many years and although I still strongly disagree with many of the traffic and Tory policies, so much of the mud slinging by the less informed slingers is misplaced.”
molecat, worcester, said: “He must expect to take the flack due to his position.”
skychip, Worcester, said they worked with Coun Prodger.
“In spite of what many people may feel he had the residents of Worcester at heart,” they wrote.
Maggie Would said she had met Coun Prodger and thought he was “a thoroughly nice chap”. “He worked hard for his community and I assume will continue to do so,” she said. “He certainly helped with a huge problem that residents round here had.”
anarchist, St John’s, said: “Although I am doubtful about the work being done on Bromyard Road here in St John’s, I very much appreciate the support that Derek Prodger has given myself and others in resolving several local traffic and parking issues in recent years.
“It is right that he should be criticised where he gets things wrong but there is an awful lot of good work done by most councillors, including Derek Prodger, that only those involved will be aware of.”
