A SUMMER campaign has been launched to help people in Worcestershire make the right moves and become more physically active.
The campaign – “Move More” – has been launched jointly between the Sports Partnership Herefordshire and Worcestershire and NHS Worcestershire, offering people eight weeks of free activities such as swimming and walking.
The campaign, aimed at people aged 45 to 60 years old, was launched at Worcester Woods Country Park in Worcester on Monday.
Adults will be encouraged to take part in free walking groups throughout Worcestershire, as well as dancing and swimming groups in Worcester, Redditch and Kidderminster.
There are opportunities to take part in activities across the county, including with the Pitchcroft Pacers in Worcester, Stourport Riverside Walk and at Worcester Swimming Pool and Fitness Centre.
Dr Frances Howie, assistant director of public health at NHS Worcestershire, said: “Although we hear a lot about the need to tackle obesity among children, the obesity epidemic affects adults too, with alarmingly higher rates in the mid-life years.
“It is therefore of utmost importance that people in this age group start to move more; this will not only improve their health now but also mean that they can look forward to a longer and healthier life, reducing their risk of type two diabetes, cardio-vascular disease, and some cancers.”
