A 74-year-old man has been remanded in custody charged with murder.

Robin Troughton, aged 59, of Longdon, near Upton upon Severn, was found in a life-threatening condition after being seriously injured in Bushley, near Gloucestershire, on Sunday, April 3.

He was taken by air ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham, but died there on Friday, April 22.

Roger Troughton, aged 74, who is thought to be Mr Troughton's cousin, appeared at Worcester Magistrates Court yesterday charged with his murder.

He was remanded in custody and will appear at Worcester Crown Court on Monday.

Robin Troughton’s mother, Barbara, paid tribute to her well-known son.

She said: “Robin was well-known in the local community in and around Longdon and Bushley.

“He attended church regularly and enjoyed watching local cricket matches.

“This has been an extremely difficult time for the family and it is tragic that I have lost my son in such a way. I miss him very much.”

A second man, in his 50s, who was also arrested at the time of the incident remains on police bail.
