A BIT of thunder couldn’t stop children enjoying maggot racing at a fund-raising fete near Worcester.
The Leigh and Bransford School Community Fete, held at the villages’ Memorial Hall, attracted a couple of hundred people despite the bad weather and managed to raise more than £1,000 to build a new play area for the school.
Craft stalls and a barbecue were popular with visitors to the fete, but it was the maggots that were the real star of the show.
The children set up maggot racing stalls after a parent built a maggot racing track and charged 25p a go – raising about £6 in total.
Paula Duncan, chairman of the PTA, said: “We’ve had them before and the kids really seem to like them.
"I don’t know what it is – maybe the yuck factor.”
