A DRAMATIC river rescue unfolded in Worcester city centre last night after a man entered the Severn.
Severn Bridge in South Parade was closed for about an hour from 10.30pm after the man in his 50s was seen going into the water.
Firefighters used a boat from Worcester and a boat from Evesham to rescue the man, who was safely recovered from the river.
He was taken to Worcestershire Royal Hospital by ambulance for treatment to non life-threatening injuries just before midnight. Police remain with him at the hospital.
Supt Kevin Purcell from West Mercia Police said: “This was a good example of the emergency services working together to ensure a safe resolution to this incident.”
