THIEVES who raided a shed in Worcester have deprived a 12-year-old boy of his prized fishing equipment. A mini motorbike worth about £650 was also stolen during the burglary in Borrowdale Drive, Warndon.

Tina Portman said her son Lewis was devastated after losing his fishing gear which included two MAXimiser reels worth £100 each, a seat box and three bait alarms in a silver case. The total cost of everything taken is more than £1,000.

Miss Portman, aged 32, said her son, a Tudor Grange Academy pupil, suffers from ADHD and finds fishing therapeutic.

“He’s not too worried about the motorbike but he is really upset about losing all his fishing gear,” she said. “He loves fishing, it’s the one thing that keeps him calm.”

Miss Portman, who also has a six-year-old daughter, said burglars struck while they were on holiday last week.

She said: “It looks like they have entered the garden from the side of the house then broken the hinges on the shed door which is padlocked.

“They’ve even had the cheek to use our garden chairs to stand on and lift stuff over then leave them by the fence.

“It just goes to show that people who do this sort ofthing don’t think for a second or care who they might be stealing from. It’s just callous.”

The mini motorbike is a yellow scrambler with a number 90 sticker on the side. It also has a broken rear mudguard.

Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.

A spokesman said: “If anyone saw anything suspicious or has been offered the items for sale please call us on 03003 333000 quoting 540/S/070511. The bike is particularly recognisable due to the broken rear mudguard.” People can also call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
