THIS dramatic picture was taken by a Worcester News reader during one of a series of thunderstorms that hit Worcester over the weekend.
A CCTV camera at the top of St Andrew’s Spire in Worcester was damaged after the tower took a direct hit from lightning on Friday night but was up and running again the next day.
Fortunately, no peregrines were hurt because they were not on the tower at the time.
The strike was caught on the cameras as a white flash.
Dave Grubb, of Electrodesign CCTV, said because the spire was a listed building, the cameras had to be fixed to a metal frame, which is also connected to the lightning conductors.
Your Worcester News weatherman Paul Damari said a number of thunderstorms hit the county yesterday.
“There is a line of them coming up from the south west into our area,” he said.
