A DRUNKEN Worcester man who burst into a house and beat up the occupant in an unprovoked attack has been sent to prison for two years.

David Hilton was rowing in the street with his girlfriend when he took exception to remarks from passers-by asking him to be quiet, said Gareth Walters, prosecuting.

Paul Hudspith and his friends were so alarmed they retreated into their house, locked the doors and refused to answer when Hilton came knocking.

They thought he had gone away but 15 minutes later there was a tap on the door.

When it was opened, Hilton burst in and hit Mr Hudspith on the head as he watched TV.

The blow shattered his cheekbone and damaged an eye socket.

At Worcester Crown Court Hilton, aged 23, of Tolladine Road, Worcester, admitted inflicting grievous bodily harm.

Mr Hudspith has undergone an operation to repair his cheekbone following the asault on December 27 and still suffers from blurred vision. He is unable to work.

Hilton had a previous conviction for an offence of battery in November, 2009.

Charles Hamer, defending, said the combination of drink and the breakdown of a fragile relationship triggered Hilton's actions.

Normally, he was hard-working with a supportive family, he said.
