THIS year’s Miss Worcester will need the hair to go with the crown – and she will, thanks to the competition’s sponsor.
Umberto Giannini, in Pump Street, Worcester, will not only ensure all the girls have perfectly coiffed hair on the day but also that Miss Worcester 2011’s crowning glory looks fabulous throughout her reign.
Salon owner Shirley Thornhill is possibly even more excited by being involved with the competition than any potential Miss Worcesters out there Mrs Thornhill said: “It is great to do something in the community. It seems like it is going to be great fun and it will be so exciting for the young girls in the competition.
“It was an ideal thing for the salon to get involved with as making people look and feel fantastic is our mission statement.
“For me, personally, it is exciting because I used to love watching beauty pageants when I was younger.”
The salon’s role as Miss Worcester sponsor means it will create the hairdos for the final – a perfect chance for Mrs Thornhill’s younger hairdressers to get some extra experience.
She said: “It’s great for them. A lot of the older ones go to London Fashion Week to work so this will be perfect practice.
“As for the styles themselves it will depend on the girl – what they want, how they want to present themselves, whether they want long and loose or a sophisticated up-do.”
The eventual winner of Miss Worcester will then get her hair looked after for the year, courtesy of Umberto Giannini.
