A COLLEGE student’s IT skills have won him a competition to design the website which will be the face of the Worcestershire Pear Tree Project.
Brandon Scott said he was shocked to be named the winner at a gathering at Nexus Creative in Norton, near Worcester.
The 19-year-old Worcester College of Technology student, who is studying an HND in graphic design, said: “It was quite a short project; we only had six weeks and three hours a week to do it.
"I just worked from the logo and tried to get a theme for it.”
People behind the pear tree have been overwhelmed with how much time and effort companies and individuals have given to the project, which is likely to cost £1.5 million using private sector funds.
Mr Scott said he was enthusiastic about the proposed 22-metre tall tree made of steel.
“It’s good that everyone is getting involved,” he said.
“It’s creating a lot of opportunities so I think it’s good for everyone.”
Although an exact location has not yet been decided and agreed upon with a landowner, those behind the project are happy that steady progress is being made.
The group are hoping to achieve charitable status in the near future and talks continue to be held with other companies about getting involved.
