DIGITAL radio listeners in Worcestershire should notice an improvement to their BBC coverage thanks to a new transmitter in Malvern.

The new DAB transmitter at St Anne’s Well provides DAB coverage in Great Malvern, as well as enhancing coverage through Worcester and Droitwich into Bromsgrove.

The transmitter also improves coverage in Tewkesbury and Cheltenham.

In total it adds a further 17,000 people to the national DAB network and improves coverage for three quarters of a million people.

BBC controller Mark Friend said: “The BBC is committed to broadening the availability of digital radio and we are delighted to further expand and improve coverage.

“We hope more listeners will discover the range of programmes and services offered by DAB.”

A second transmitter has been installed at Haslingden in Lancashire, bringing coverage to a further 31,000 people and improving coverage for nearly 450,000 people.

The BBC has five digital-only radio networks: 1Xtra – Radio 1Xtra, 5 live sports extra, 6 Music, Radio 7, and Asian Network.
