A man who was found dead in a field in Worcester has been named.

The body of Druvis Ruiga was found just after 11am on Tuesday, February 1 in Ronkswood Hill meadows, just off Newtown Road.

Police believe Mr Ruiga had been sleeping rough in Ronkswood in the days leading up to his death.

Officers are investigating the circumstances surrounding the 43-year-old Latvian’s death and are continuing to treat it as unexplained.

Detective Chief Inspector Steve Eccleston said: “Police are very keen to speak with anybody in the Ronkswood Hill or Newtown Road areas that may have seen a disturbance of some kind or a man fall or injure himself in some way sometime between Thursday, January 27 and Tuesday, February 1.”

Formal identification of Mr Ruiga’s body took place yesterday and an inquest is set to be opened in due course.

Police arrested a man on Thursday, February 3 in connection with the incident.

He has been released on police bail while enquiries continue.
