FLOOD barriers will not go up in Upton but Environment Agency chiefs say it was a close call.
THE EA held a conference at 11am this morning to decide whether the barriers would go up in the town but at 11.40am this morning announced that the barriers would not go up.
A spokesman said: "The Upton barriers are not going up. It was a very close call. We did start to prepare in case but we are keen to avoid any disruption. We don't put flood defences up unless we have to."
Flood warnings remain in place along the River Severn.
