BUNGALOWS will be built in three county villages after a £300,000 government grant was secured.

The five properties will be built in Pebworth, Badsey and Harvington and should be finished by January 2012.

Rooftop Housing Group and Wychavon District Council announced the plans after the Housing and Communities Agency (HCA) approved their joint funding bid.

Building work will start in March, with two buildings each in Badsey and Harvington and one in Pebworth.

Planning permission has already been approved.

Elaine Salter, the council’s housing services manager, said: “This is fantastic news.

“We’ve identified a need for 200 new affordable homes to be built in the five-year period up to March 2013, and this is another great contribution to the steady progress we’re making to meet the target.

David Hannon, Rooftop’s development director, said: “This is a great opportunity to provide much-needed affordable homes in our rural village locations.”
