A WOMAN left fighting for life after a lorry carrying timber shed its load in Hereford has died.

The woman, who was in her 20s, was found unconscious at the scene in Hereford after the lorry hit the former railway bridge, known as the Great Western Way, in Belmont Road, shortly before 10.30am yesterday.

She was airlifted to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, in Birmingham, with multiple injuries but died on yesterday evening.

As we reported yesterday on this website, a man, who was also in his 20s, died shortly after arriving at Hereford County Hospital following the incident.

The driver of the heavy goods vehicle was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and released on police bail while the investigation continues.

Insp Jim McLaughlin said: “We have arrested the driver involved, which is routine in this sort of fatal collision.

"Road traffic collision investigations are often complex and can take some time to conclude, but I want to reassure everyone in Hereford that our officers will thoroughly scrutinise how this tragic incident has occurred.

“Two young people have lost their lives and it has had a major impact on our local community.”
