TWO Worcester schools have teamed up to offer pupils the opportunity to learn the ancient language of Latin.

The King’s School Worcester has launched a Latin course in association with Bishop Perowne CE College.

Forty pupils ranging from years seven to 10 from Bishop Perowne have signed up to the course, which will be delivered by staff from the King’s for the rest of the academic year. Many, but not all, of the pupils are already part of the gifted and talented scheme at Bishop Perowne.

The pupils will be studying the Latin language and Roman civilisation through the Cambridge Latin course.

Pupils learn the language independently through a tailored computer course with regular input from the King’s classics department.

Latin is becoming more popular in schools with the courses often starting as extra-curricular activity and then being added to their academic curriculum.

The course is the latest in a planned range of exciting links and initiatives between the two schools.

The all-weather sports surface, opened last month, has already played host to a range of pupils from both schools for matches and extended practice sessions under lights.
