HOMEOWNERS are being urged to take care after a candle started a house fire.
A woman lit some candles in a utility room at her house in Martley near Worcester, but after leaving the room returned to discover a fire had broken out.
Firefighters were called to the village house in Hollins Lane at about 7.15pm on Saturday, February 5.
A crew equipped with breathing gear managed to the tackle the fire while still in its early stages.
The blaze caused some damage to the utility room and light smoke damage to the house, while the woman was treated for the effects of smoke inhalation.
Adrian Moore, station commander at Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service, said: “Fortunately this fire was noticed in its early stages and damage was limited mostly to the one room.
“Nevertheless, we want to take this opportunity to remind people of the dangers associated with lighting candles.”
