A BRA chain has reached the crucial halfway point but thousands more bras are still needed before the world record can be broken.

The second Skin Lingerie bra chain, which is also raising money for the Worcestershire Breast Unit Campaign, now has 100,000 bras thanks to a donation from Triumph UK, as well as generous locals, but still needs another 100,000 to break the record.

Yesterday organisers of the bra chain, crew from Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service, and Worcestershire cricket legend Graeme Hick gathered outside Storage King in Tolladine Road, Tolladine, Worcester, with manager Terry Proc who has donated three new units at the warehouse to the bra chain attempt.

The bras were originally being stored in a smaller unit there but that quickly filled up.

Mr Proc said the warehouse was now the central donation point for anyone wishing to donate their old bras to the record attempt.

“At the end of the day at Storage Kings throughout the country we try and give our services to as many charities who need us as possible,” he said.

“What will happen now is that any bras collected at Storage Kings throughout the country will be transported here so this is the central depot. Anyone else who has bras they want to donate can also put them in a bag and bring them here.

"I’ll do whatever I can to keep the cost down for them and help out in every possible way.”

As previously reported in your Worcester News, the bra chain had a huge boost after Triumph UK donated 10,000 bras to the record attempt.

Worcester hauliers M Pinches and Sons transported the bras from the Triumph warehouse in Swindon to Storage King in Worcester after reading an appeal in this newspaper.

The record-breaking attempt will take place at Worcester Racecourse on Sunday, July 31.

People can sponsor a bra for £1 and the money raised will go to the Worcestershire Breast Unit Campaign.

The campaign, backed by your Worcester News, aims to raise £2.5 million to open a dedicated breast cancer unit on the Worcestershire Royal Hospital site.

Mr Hick, who is patron of the campaign, said: “It’s all going very well.

“Locally, people have been very generous towards the bra chain. By the deadline they think they’ll have enough bras to break the record.”
