A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with the discovery of a body in a field in Worcester.

We reported earlier this week how the body of a man was found under a makeshift tent covering in a thicket in Ronkswood Hill Meadow, off Newtown Road, at around 11am on Tuesday.

The man in his 40s, who is believed to be homeless and of eastern European descent, has not yet been named.

A number of officers and forensic investigators were at the scene on Tuesday afternoon and said the death was being treated as unexplained.

The body was removed by around noon and police left the scene but officers returned on Thursday afternoon to cordon off the area.

Your Worcester News was told by a police spokesman on Thursday evening the area had been revisited to preserve the scene until results from a post mortem examination were known.

However, West Mercia Police has now confirmed a Lithuanian man was arrested on Thursday night on suspicion of murder.

A police spokesman said: “Police arrested a man in his 30s in connection with an incident in which a man's body was found at land in the Ronkswood area earlier this week. He remains in custody while enquiries continue.”
