A WOMAN who was the first to be banned from buying or drinking alcohol anywhere in the country has fallen off the wagon.
After laying off drink for eight months Laura Hall admitted being drunk and disorderly and breaching a court order banning her from drinking at Worcester Magistrates Court this week.
The unemployed 21-year-old, who is due to feature in a television program on Monday tracking her efforts to remain sober, was found lying drunk in the road.
Matt Dodson, prosecuting, said officers were called to Blake Avenue, Droitwich, on Tuesday where they found Hall by the side of the road.
She was swaying and her eyes were glazed and she had an open bottle of cola containing vodka.
At one point she ran towards a passing car and had to be stopped by police for her own safety. After being arrested, she was found to have more alcohol on her.
Hall, of Tythe Barn Close, Stoke Heath, Bromsgove, admitted being drunk and disorderly and breaching a two-year drinking banning order which had been made in April last year.
Rob Macrory, in mitigation, said Hall had been doing “extremely well” up until the previous evening.
“This shows the difficult battle she has had with alcohol,” he said.
“This drug is one of the most difficult ones to give up.”
But he said the incident had been a one-off ‘blip’ and she had not shown any signs of withdrawal symptoms.
Deputy district judge Mark Layton said it was unfortunate that she had suffered the setback, but added he hoped she would continue to improve.
Hall was fined £75 for breaching the order, given no extra fines for being drunk and disorderly, and ordered to pay £85 costs and £15 victims surcharge.
- Laura Hall: My Battle With Booze is due to be aired on BBC3 at 9pm on Monday.
