CHER Lloyd's family have hardly had time to catch their breath after the 17-year-old’s whirlwind homecoming.
The star’s return caused plenty of interest in Malvern Link on Tuesday and Chermania shows no sign of slowing down with the X Factor live final just days away and X Factor film crews returning to Worcestershire over the weekend.
Mum and dad Dinah and Darren had to deal with a huge crowd of fans outside their house on Tuesday, but on the positive side got to spend an afternoon with Cher’s mentor Cheryl Cole.
“It went really, really quickly,” said Mrs Lloyd, who sported her Worcester News Vote 4 Cher T-shirt for the homecoming.
“It was amazing to see the response from local people. They stood out there in the cold for a long time to see Cher and Cheryl and for the school kids the opportunity to see her was just incredible too.
“Cher was overwhelmed. She never expected it.
“She saw faces that she’s grown up with in the crowd. It was such a buzz.”
After last week’s nail-biting sing-off, the last thing Cher said to her dad on Sunday was: “I don’t think we should do this homecoming because I don’t think anyone will turn up”.
It explains why the youngster looked so shock-ed when she came face-to-face with the screaming crowd of fans.
The family had a great time meeting Cheryl too.
“She came in and sat down and was like one of the family, chatting away,” said Mr Lloyd.
“We had a chance to say thank you for seeing something in Cher and fulfilling her dream.
“The concert was amazing. We didn’t know about the red carpet or the fireworks. The whole day was just incredible.”
Malvern Hills District Council has declared Tuesday’s homecoming visit a success.
The concert was coordinated by the council’s street scene manager Gordon Morris, together with the Three Counties Showground and West Mercia Police.
Mr Morris said: “The event went really well.”
Meanwhile, X Factor bosses have confirmed there will be a chance for Cher’s supporters to watch the weekend’s finals during a television broadcast from Malvern.
The show’s producers have booked the hall at the Three Counties Show-ground where Cher performed her homecoming show for the final over Saturday and Sunday.
The broadcasts will see gates open at 6.30pm on Saturday, with the cameras rolling from 7.30pm until 10.30pm.
On Sunday, doors open at 5.30pm, with broadcasting between 6.30pm and 9.30pm.
Tickets for both nights will be available from tomorrow, with a celebrity performer hosting the coverage – part of which will be screened live during the show.
