MALVERN’s Cher Lloyd will perform two songs this week in a bid to stay in the X Factor.
The seven remaining contestants will have two opportunities to impress the judges on tonight’s show.
Cher, who finished in the bottom two last week, is expected to sing Walk This Way by Aerosmith and Run DMC as one of her songs.
The 17-year-old has described being in last week’s sing-off as “pants”, but has vowed to come back fighting this week.
Meanwhile, back at home in Malvern Link, the teenager’s family are coming to terms with life in the spotlight.
Although Cher has had the advantage of the X Factor publicity team to guide her through the pitfalls, her parents Darren and Dinah have had to learn quickly how to deal with being in the media spotlight.
The whole family are very proud of Cher and have appeared on the ITV1 show to support their daughter.
Mrs Lloyd, who had the crew from X Factor filming in her home two weeks ago, said it took time to get right.
“I kept messing up,” she laughed.
And Mr Lloyd, aged 37, has spoken about being recognised by people in the street.
He said: “We can walk up to the studio on a weekend and one of the fans will spot one of us and they will come running up to say ‘she’s amazing’.
“It’s completely different to what we’re used to.”
Younger sister Sophie has even been recognised while shopping in Birmingham.
The 14-year-old says her Facebook friend count has shot from 500 to 2,000 – and people have even set up fake accounts claiming to be her, as well as her sister Rosie, aged 12, and brother Josh, aged 15.
Cher’s brother and sisters have been warned by their parents to be careful who they talk to, but they are all regularly contacted by people claiming to be distant relatives or even by reporters from the tabloids or magazines.
Despite the pressures, the family say they do enjoy meeting the stream of celebrities in the X Factor studio each weekend.
Mr Lloyd was delighted to meet rapper Tynchy Strider – although Mrs Lloyd admits she confused him with Tinie Tempah, much to Cher’s horror. Mrs Lloyd said: “We’re just along for the ride at the moment – this is Cher’s thing. It’s surreal.”
And would they like any of the others to follow in Cher’s footsteps?
Mr Lloyd shakes his head.
“I wouldn’t let them – it’s too much,” he says.
