TO look at her, you would think that Katie Curtis was just a mere slip of a girl. But no one - particularly wrongdoers - should be under any illusions. Behind the smiling face there lies an inner strength and determination that can only be described as remarkable.
Make no mistake. Courageous Katie is the curse of criminals and if you've got anything to hide, then better watch out. For after just 10 weeks on the beat, she has notched up an impressive 46 arrests, thereby setting a new record for South Worcestershire Police.
It seems whenever there's trouble, Katie is never far away. She's faced bottles and knives and had glasses thrown at her, yet this 24-year-old remains quite cheerful, stoically and philosophically going about her duties, day after eventful day. Despite all the dangers, she quite obviously loves her work, and is quick to stress her unfailing commitment to the community and the victims of crime.
The Worcester News salutes this brave officer. Her conspicuous devotion to duty is a shining example of everything that is good about the body of men and women who have been entrusted with upholding the law of the land. All too often, the public criticises the police for not doing enough, and it has to be admitted that the Press is often at the front of the queue when it comes to criticism. But today we express our admiration for the dainty dynamo of a woman who seems to have become a one-person crimebuster.
Having police officers like Katie Curtis around means we can all sleep that little bit easier. Good on you, girl - we're proud of you.
