THE posts and rails around a football pitch in Malvern's Victoria Park could soon be removed to allow the public to use the area more freely.
Members of Malvern Town Council's operations committee is set to recommend that the council spends £3,500 clearing the area so it is easier for the public to use and for council staff to cut the grass.
According to a report to the committee, which meets tomorrow, the posts and rails were installed to enable a football club to become members of Division One in the West Midlands League.
"The football club has now disbanded and there is no reason to keep the post and rails in place," says town clerk Richard Chapman. "The town council will no longer have maintenance responsibilities for the rails or supplying and maintaining dug-outs."
If approved, the work could be carried out before the start of the football season in September.
