BICYCLE storage has been increased at The Cross in Worcester city centre following a request from cyclists.
An old bus shelter has been converted into a covered bicycle rack for 24 bikes at a cost of £22,000.
The work was funded by Worcestershire County Council and Worcester City Council in support of the Choose How You Move project, which encourages people to walk, cycle and use public transport.
Coun Derek Prodger, county council cabinet member for the environment, said: "These facilities now enable more people to get to the heart of Worcester and park their bikes under shelter while also being covered by CCTV.
"This encourages cycling, which has its obvious health benefits and as a mode of travel is often far swifter than people realise."
As previously reported in the Worcester News, the work was delayed slightly when workmen discovered the partial remains of three human skeletons, including a skull. Tests later showed the remains to be about 400 years old.
