A MUM of three from Pershore is encouraging more people to give blood over the summer after her life was saved by anonymous blood donors.

Jodie McLeod, aged 42, of High Street, received four life-saving blood transfusions after becoming dangerously anaemic following a routine operation after she suffered a miscarriage in 2005. During the procedure she started bleeding uncontrollably and needed four pints of blood over nine hours to aid a full recovery.

Jodie said: "Without blood donors, I wouldn't be here to see my three children grow up.

"I'm also getting married next month, which I wouldn't be doing without donors. Blood donors have given me a second chance with my family and I'm incredibly grateful."

The National Blood Service has recently launched its campaign to get more people giving blood this summer.

At present, there are only five to six days worth of blood stocks left and more donors are desperately needed. To be a blood donor you need to be between 17 and 59, over 7st 12lbs (50kg) and in general good health.
